Abstract

WhyRobot, a futuristic robot company, has developed a new type of robot. Categorized as a “Companion Robot”, these robots are intended to be long term, life long friends to whomever is lucky enough to have one. A young boy, Robbie, receives one such robot on his eighth birthday and it has changed his life. The robot’s name is Bigsby, a fun loving, highly interactive, AI system that would amaze anyone who engaged it. With Robbie’s safety and happiness at the top of Bigsby’s goals, there is little this robot wouldn’t do to keep Robbie happy and safe from harm. Unfortunately, the family members around Robbie have secrets. As Bigsby collects and analyzes real time information about the family, this little robot is thrust into a complex ethical dilemma that could result in dire consequences for both itself and its Principal Bond, Robbie. Faced with such a challenge, Bigsby adapts in ways the WhyRobot developers had never predicted. A Robot’s Tale will take the reader on the journey of Bigsby’s capabilities, revelations, and eventual actions to save itself and Robbie.
